Little Philosophy Of Success IV

Success & Effort

"There is no elevator towards success,
you have to use the staircase."

(Emil Ösch)

Success is not only the result of making right decisions. Moreover, success requires taking action as well in order to get the results. - It's not too long ago that people were not admired for being hard workers. In ancient times all work was done by slaves while the citizens were released from work to deal with politics, art and philosophy. Today things are different: Although at least in Europe to a limited extend aid money from the state would allow a more or less comfortable standard of living to everyone, nothing worse could happen to somebody than losing his job. Looked at it from the distance the ancient model of society is put on its head nowadays. The former slave, working all day long, today enjoys the highest honour by showing off with a 60hours working week spent in company. On the other hand those forcedly liberated from work  feel disprized and excluded. Instead of doing things, which seem important and enjoyable to them, the unemployed get deeply depressed and sad. Crazy world?

We said success depends on right decisions and resolute action. However, we shouldn't become slaves of our own success or and addicted to it. So how does a successful look like? Imagine a group of children down on the street jointly playing. How would you describe what you see? For my part, I see and hear hilarious laughter and shouting, running and jumping, pure activity. In the very next moment I see kids focused and concentrated on building sandcastles or painting pictures. Then I see them catching each other again. There are coming lots of words in my mind. However, it has nothing to do with struggling, stubbornness or compulsion. - What would it mean, if we would follow up on our decision with playful actions including all of what children drives in their games. Joy instead of duty, delight instead of trouble. Finally, imagine the kids coming home in the evening: soaked with sweat and scarred, exhausted but happy. Exhausted and happy like a kid from its daily plays should be the successful.
