BORA Goes Brazil (II)
The Assessment Center Afterburner
Six weeks ago, > Weekly eCoach No 39 reported about the start of an
Intercultural TeleSeminar concept, which was conducted as a pilot in
Latin America in co-operation with a Swiss global player of the chemical
branch.
The idea was to increase the relevance and the impact of a three days
assessment center with twelve selected participants from the middle
management based on the concept of Strategic Self-Management. The
company wanted to see the participants working with their assessment
actively like entrepreneurs do with their customers' feedback. Based on
this the company expected the participants to work out their personal
business strategies showing the following elements on one single piece
of paper:
1. A headline should show a clear mission or target.
2. In two or three short sentences the focus of the future development
efforts should be defined.
3. A SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities & Risks) analysis should
give the framework within the mission could be fulfilled.
4. The main qualitative and quantitative milestones should be indicated.
5. Last but not least the necessary measures should be defined in order
to ensure the mission's achievement.
The mission statement was meant as an offer to the company and the
measures could contain elements where the support of the company is
needed. The steps in between should convince the company of the strategy
in order to release the requested additional resources.
I was expected to lead the managers through the strategy process by a
kick-off workshop at the end of the assessment center in Sao Paulo, a
TeleSeminar containing two TeleConferences and personal TeleCoaching
in between. In the first TeleConference (lasting two hours with six
participants maximum) the particpants presented their professional
mission statements to each other, in the second their business strategies.
Part of each TeleConference was a so called Talkshop, where we discussed
the meaning of success and internal network strategies.
After finishing the program the participants showed themselves well prepared to present their business
strategies to their direct managers, local HR and one representative of
the local Top Management.
The TeleSeminar was the result of good co-operation of the involved
people in different continents and countries and the usage of state of the art communication
techniques.
The feedback of the participants was outstanding and so the next program starts in Bangkok
early December.
